Lady Lesson #9: A Lady's Work EthicIf so far you had the impression that ladies mainly sit around, behave well, eat crumpets, drink tea and generally look pretty, I have to disappoint you, dear lady in training. An important part of a lady's general disposition is her positive attitude towards work. Not only does she work diligently and avoid idleness, no, she seeks work out, joyfully so, takes responsibility and does everything that benefits first her father's, and later her husband's household. To the wife and lady of the house, the care of the household is given, and it is her duty as well as her pleasure to run her husband's house with efficiency and joy, making his affairs her own, always supporting whatever endeavor he deems beneficial to the family. She is the one who spends the most time with the children and makes sure to bring them up with love and wisdom so that they praise God and honor their father and mother all their lives. If you want a biblical role model for the perfect lady, please read Proverbs 31, for this is the most detailed description of the attitude of a lady towards her work. And not only will you find what she sows with her work, you will also find what she will reap. If you read Proverbs 31, you will see the picture of a lady who knows what she is doing in terms of running a household and raising the children, and you will find how important her work and attitude is to her husband and children. And don't just read it once - read is every day for a week, or a month, and see how the examples of her work fit for you, how you can "consider a field and buy it" (vs 16), how you can make sure that your "lamp does not go out at night" (vs 18), and that you can "laugh at the times to come" (vs 25). "She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates."
