Joshuah's House

The One And Only Standard Part 1

In a recent group discussion about modest dress and head coverings, someone mentioned "common decency" as a standard by which to judge whether or not a certain style of dress was appropriate, and also referred to this in context of the spirit of the law that was to be followed, rather than the letter of the law. Since this person indicated in an earlier post that she regarded God's law to be done away with, I asked the group as a whole what standard everyone went by.

Only one other person responded, a Christadelphian lady, imagine that, confirming that of course God's law was still valid, while the other lady tried to jump through some more hoops to explain the remaining validity of God's Law away. She also mentioned in a side note that we go by the dietary laws, as well as the polygamy aspect of our life.

I wrote the following post for the group, which funnily enough lead to me being banned for "arguing like a shrew", and for the very last sentence of the post. The group moderator then expressed her belief that I would be surprised once I reached heaven's gates. Interesting that she would feel comfortable enough to judge other people's salvation ... but oh well, even that is nothing new to us anymore since we decided to seek fellowship with people who call themselves Christians.

I modified the post slightly, editing out names and references to other posts that would not make sense outside the group context. Enjoy.

"I would agree of course that there is only one Law which is everlasting and unchanging and which is given to govern our life in its totality, and not just bits and pieces of it. Faith for all of life is what God prescribed for us when He gave us His law, and our obedience to His law shows how much we love God, or don't. For this He promises us a good life down here as His stewards. And without the letter of the Law, the spirit of the Law cannot be understood... The case laws illustrate the spirit of the Ten Commandments, and when Jesus said that our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees, He did not do away with the letter of God's Law, but rather confirmed it, and spoke against those that set their own rules and regulations above God's Word.
